Travel
CORK, IRELAND
We've outlined the easiest options for our friends and family that are traveling from the United States below. We encourage you to please reach out to Gina or Des with travel-related questions at any time if you need assistance or are just looking for recommendations - and that goes for our Irish loved ones too!
Cork City is located about 10 minutes by car from our wedding venue, the Maryborough Hotel. Other noteworthy, nearby spots include Cobh and Kinsale, both located 25 minutes from Cork City.
Important Reminder! - Some countries operate by the 3-6 month passport rule. This means that you are unable to use your passport within 3/6 months (depending on the country and the type of passport) WITHIN the date of expiration. For example, if your passport expires September 2025, you would be unable to use it for travel in June of 2025. Again, this rule varies country to country and passport to passport, but we highly recommend checking that your passport’s expiration date does not fall within this time constraint.
LEG 1: FLY
Dublin
Shannon
Cork
You can fly directly into Dublin or Shannon from most major international U.S. airports.
DUBLIN - Located just under 3 hours by car from Cork City. There is a direct bus line that departs from the airport, located just steps outside the terminal.
SHANNON - Ireland's southwestern airport, located roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes from Cork City. Like Dublin, Shannon also offers a direct bus line that departs from the airport.
Cork also has it's own airport that can be reached from U.S. flights via a connecting flight if you prefer to forego bus/train/car travel upon landing.
*Please keep in mind that any flight you book from the U.S. will arrive in Ireland +1 day from the day of departure.
LEG 2 OPTION A: BUS
FROM DUBLIN - Once landing at Dublin airport, you can take a 3 hour bus ride directly to Cork City via the 707 Citylink line. Tickets can be purchased on the Citylink home page.
FROM SHANNON - You can take a 1 hour and 40 minute bus ride from Shannon Airport that travels directly to Cork City using the Route 51 Expressway Line. Tickets can be purchased through their website.
LEG 2 OPTION B:
TRAIN
FROM DUBLIN - You can take a direct 2 hour and 30 minute train ride from Dublin to Cork City (but please be advised that Dublin's train station is located about 15 minutes from the airport).
Dublin has two train stations, but Dublin Heuston is the only one with direct service to Cork (Kent) station. Trains run by the hour Monday through Saturday (timetables linked to the right).
Tickets can be purchased on the Irish Rail website up to 90 days in advance (we do recommend booking tickets online in advance to reserve your seats).
ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS
Cork also has it's own airport that can be reached from U.S. flights via a connecting flight if you prefer to forego bus/train/car travel upon landing.
Both Dublin and Shannon international airports also have car rental options available.

For our Welcome Party & Day 2 Celebration, we ask that guests dress in festive/casual cocktail attire - sport coats and khakis for men; fun dresses or jumpsuits for women. For our wedding day, we ask that guests dress in formal/black-tie optional attire - tuxedos or formal suits for men; gowns or upscale cocktail dresses for women.
While we love your little ones, we ask that our wedding strictly be an adults-only affair.
That being said, we recognize that some families may want to bring their children along with them on the trip, and we hope to support our loved ones who'd like to make the journey. We're happy to have more individualized conversations with you to discuss potential options, including local childcare services that we're in contact with. If you’re interested in chatting more about the options available, we encourage you to reach out!
It was important for us to share Ireland, our beloved home away from home, with our American friends and family. But Des was picturing a destination wedding, so we also wanted something that felt like a weekend getaway for our Irish loved ones, with a unique setting from that of gorgeous county Mayo - Des’ home county along the west coast-- Enter Cork!
Cork City is Ireland’s second-largest city after Dublin, offering easily accessible, direct transportation. However, outside the city, you’ll find the nearby coastal villages of Cobh and Kinsale, which paint the perfectly colorful picture of your quintessential Irish town. Cork truly offers the best of both worlds!
WILL THERE BE SHUTTLE SERVICES?
Yes. Shuttle services will run to and from The Imperial Hotel and The Maryborough Hotel & Spa. This service will include transportation for each event of the weekend.
We wish we could tell you! Just kidding... kind of.
Summers in Ireland are MUCH milder than New York's. While you might want to pack a pair of shorts and a few tank tops for warmer (and sometimes, unexpectedly hot) days, you can expect to be wearing pants while touring the streets of Cork.
Average temperatures in June are around 55-65 degrees (F). You'll definitely want to bring a light coat or sweater to wear around during the day, as it can be chilly when the sun is hidden.
And hate to say it - but make sure you bring some rain gear!
The majority of our wedding day will be held indoors, apart from our drinks reception (similar to an American ‘Cocktail Hour’), which will be partially outdoors, weather permitting. If it does rain, you can expect to be inside and fully covered for the entirety of our big day.
There are Ubers, however, Ireland has only very recently begun using them, so wait times may be long as they’re somewhat hard to come by.
The ‘Free Now’ app is similar to Uber and can be used for booking taxis. You can also arrange taxis with the front desk of your hotel if needed.
Please visit the "Travel" page and do NOT hesitate at all to reach out to either Des or Gina. (Truly, we mean that! It’s not a bother).
Please check back once you receive your wedding invite as we're eager to share all of our favorite spots with those looking to explore or extend their stay!
